One of the must beautiful exhibitions this autumn.

Sabine Beyele has cooperated with Galleri NB since 2013, and already back then she impressed with her spectacular technique and unique understanding for nature and environment. Her global interest for culture and nature has naturally lead to a widespread travel activity which serves as inspiration for her works. Touching upon her wanderlust, she travelled around the globe for no less than 365 days.

The trips give rise to a global insight for Sabine Beyerle; an understanding for the outer world which she combines with her sense for details in her works. When travelling she carries a camera like someone carries a sketch book. Naturally she uses photography as a tool for documentation and inspiration. Back home in the studio artistic elements are applied bringing her paintings a poetic nerve and courses a deep ability to wonder about natures’ poetry.

During our last visit in the studio Sabine Beyerle shares with us some thoughts:
One day when I painted in my studio, the radio was playing a wonderful song called “Idlewild” by Travis. I was curious about the meaning of the word and thought; culd this maybe be a place, a feeling or a description of a situation? The word can not be translated directly but it comes from the words “idyllic” and “wild”. In novels and songs the word is often used about a space for you to withdraw from the outer world and meditate about your own thoughts. By the little word ”idle” another meaning is added, which is to be lazy or not to do anything at all.

In my new paintings I chose to have an intense look into wild nature. Some of them show the structure of trees, some are like a makroscopic view into a meadow or a field. Realistic elements like grasses, leaves, flowers or branches are still visible, but like an insect you are invited to dive deep into the structure of wild nature. The view climbs over the crossing and bending blades of grass, it gets entangeled in the whirls of color and jumps from one yellow leave to the other.

The condensed structure of this close up is broken up by rather abstract gestures of paint. Sometimes they look like brushstrokes, sometimes they are like drippings that interact with the more realistic elements of the painting. Like wind or traces from atmosphere, they float in the foreground of the painting, get caught and interwined by the elements of nature and are pushed to the background. Theses abstract elements are traces from the background that I choose to keep and preserve during the painting process. Like free forms they float in the space of the painting and interact with the realistic elements, at the same time they are like windows or holes, they offer insight into the process and the background of my paintings.

Like in “Idlewild,” my paintings offer a place that can be idyllic but at the same time wild, a place where one can meditate about the beauty and chaos of nature. Where human interventions have little endurance and the energy of growth and decay can be observed in its purest form.

After being represented at Galleri NB there is no doubt that the fascinating paintings hold a resilience which only a few other artists master bringing to the surface.

Burning Mind is the title of Vilmantas new exhibition

Sunday 10 October at 14 Mayor Ulrik Wilbek opened Gallery NB's extensive exhibition with Vilmantas Marcinkevicius.

Ulrik Wilbek, Vilmantas Marcinkevicius and Thorkild NB

The title is Burning Mind and refers to what happens when people for a time become socially segregated, as it happened during Covid-19.
At first glance it seems negative, but for Vilmantas it was also positive. The brain almost burned on by virtue of a changed lifestyle and the need to make space for new creative thoughts.

A number of new and in several respects different paintings have emerged from this. In addition, he has created several unique ceramic jars and dishes, which have also found their way to the exhibition.

Vilmantas Marcinkevicius b. 1969 completed his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vilnius in 1995, and he exhibited for the first time in Gallery NB in 1998. Subsequently, Vilmantas and Gallery NB have worked closely together.

Vilmantas can be briefly described as a large and distinctive artistic personality with a unique imagery and painting technique.

His major exhibitions around the world and of course in Lithuania and Denmark have created a great deal of attention. Therefore, over the last 20 years, he has developed and consolidated his position as one of Lithuania's most famous and recognized contemporary artists.

His empathic abilities and painting techniques have also made him attractive as a portrait painter. Among the most famous portraits were the portraits of HRH Prince Henrik, which he made in the spring of 2014.

Most of his art is in private collections, but over the years he has also made several striking and extensive decorations for public and private companies. Not least the commission of Hedeager Church in Herning is remarkable, as it describes the events of Maundy Thursday through paintings, glass mosaics in the windows and glass paintings built into the pulpit with LED backlighting.

Vilmantas works primarily with painting on canvas. But in recent years he has added pictorial paintings on large ceramic jars, ceramic dishes and glassworks.

Due to a long period of limitations in the exhibition possibilities, we have chosen that the exhibition Burning Mind this time will fill the entire gallery. The extensive exhibition thus presents Vilmantas latest paintings, ceramic jars, ceramic plates and painted glass plates.

This exhibition is at the same time a manifestation of our close ties, which consist of equal parts respectful recognition, professional cooperation and close friendship.
