The Guardians is a series of sculptures by artist Iben Li, which explores stories of belonging through new mythologies.
As an audience member, you are invited to actively contribute to the narratives and create your own stories about places, belonging, and connections that are meaningful to you. By scanning the QR codes of the different guardians, you can use your phone’s camera to create an AR experience, allowing the figures to become part of the world you see. Using your phone’s touchscreen, you can play with the placement and size of the figure.
Where would you place a guardian in the world you move through? How large should it be? Is it small enough to fit in your pocket, or as large as a building?
Once you have scanned the QR code, you will have the 3D model as an image in your phone’s photo library. Make a post or write a message on Instagram and tag @ibenli, or send it by email to iben.lindebjerg.gmail.com. In this way, the stories are gathered and new mythologies emerge.
There is no right or wrong way to play with the Guardians’ digital avatars. The hope is that you feel inspired to play in your own way.
