Vilmantas Marcinkevičius (b. 1969, Kaunas, Lithuania) is widely regarded as one of the leading figures within contemporary Baltic figurative expressionism. Over the course of more than three decades, he has established a distinctive artistic practice that explores the complexity of the human condition through a powerful synthesis of figurative painting, emotional intensity, and psychological depth.
Since the late 1990s, Marcinkevičius has maintained a close artistic relationship with Denmark, where his work has been extensively exhibited and acquired by both private and public collections. Today, he lives and works between Vilnius, Denmark, and Southern Italy, where he has established a studio and residence in the historic town of Galatina.
Internationally recognised for his monumental compositions, evocative narratives, and masterful command of colour, Marcinkevičius creates works that transcend geographical and cultural boundaries. His paintings navigate themes of identity, memory, belonging, freedom, and human vulnerability, balancing personal experience with universal resonance.
In Between Us, Marcinkevičius continues his exploration of the subtle spaces that exist between individuals: the unspoken connections, emotional tensions, and shared experiences that shape human relationships. His paintings invite contemplation, offering viewers an encounter that is at once intimate and profoundly universal.
Today, Vilmantas Marcinkevičius is considered one of the most significant voices in contemporary Northern European figurative painting, with a body of work that continues to attract growing international attention from collectors, curators, and institutions alike.
