In this series I have chosen to depict natural light. Light that does not stem from electricity. I seek to capture this very moment of magic the second the sun rays breaks through a window or when flaming lights move around. Focus is on the magical, short-lived moment paving the ground for many kind of interpretations. One of them is to appreciate the exact moment knowing that there is always a hope within the light.  

The phrasing "modern romanticist" refers to me finding inspiration within the National Romanticism. Landscape painters from the 1800 century have been an anchor for inspiration as I have tried to combine this realm with something new which ties into the time we live in today. Often landscapes are applicable because it can be interpreted in any ways. Frequent the state of mind, and impressionism has as well played a central role within my paintings.
I always try to challenge myself as an artist. It excites me to try out various techniques, motifs and styles of painting.

For a retrospective exhibition I value seeing all of the epochs which an artist have been through. A wide spectrum. It bores me seeing pieces of art looking alike in the context of a long-lasting artistry. As life consists of uphill and downhill epoches, I see the same conditions within the arts which is what makes it exciting to experience. The great question afterall being; where do you want to go with your art? 

This is a difficult question to ask, as becoming a painter is an eternal journey in the unknown. More than that it is a kind of therapy allowing one to dream and dive into another visual universe.

Henrik Kleppe is a modern romanticist and his close relationship with nature and its complexity is always present in his pictures. Kleppe genuinly wants to see the world as a harmonious place, but he renders it with complex feelings and different ways of interpretations. He never ceases to give the viewer small surprises and challenges.

The same ambiguity is present in his unique technique. His use of priming with surprising colours, spraypaint, neon colours combined with acrylic and oil is in a traditional yet distictive form wich brings energy, harmony and ambiguity into one and the same image.

His pictures appear different throughout the day and the year. Light and shaddows are of importance as is his classical training. He borrows from the Impressionist and as they celebrated and saw the challenges of the modern, industrialized world, Kleppe is a young artist of the 21st Century where cyberspace-and environmental concerns dominate our perspectives.
